Barcode first opened in November, 2001 by Marcus Miller. The corporation under which Barcode operates was named Matthew Enterprises in remembrance of Matthew Shepard, the Wyoming gay man murdered in 1998.

 

Due to Mr. Miller's vision, leadership, community good will, and ability to hire loyal staff, Barcode maintains it's reputation as one of RVA's longest standing gay owned and operated businesses. Operating under new management personally chosen by Mr. Miller, Barcode continues  to provide and promote a comfortable, friendly atmosphere for Richmond's diveserse, alternative community.
